The Åland Islands or Åland (pronounced "Oh-lahnd") are a group of small islands officially belonging to Finland in the Baltic Sea, consisting a surrounding archipelago. It is autonomous, demilitarised and is the only monolingually Swedish-speaking region in Finland. Åland's original name was in the Proto-Norse language - Ahvaland which means "Land of Water". In Swedish, this first developed into Áland and eventually into Åland, literally "river land"—even though rivers are not a prominent feature of Åland's geography. The Finnish and Estonian names of the island, Ahvenanmaa and Ahvenamaa ("perch land"), are seen to preserve another form of the old name.

Hey Elizabeth! The resort is beautiful, modern and really clean. With the food there wasn't much variety. Basically the same thing every single night and even the 2 times we did go to the a la carte restaurants we weren't impressed. The chefs really need some more training unfortunately. Another really bad thing was the pool. Tiles are popping off everywhere!! The weather was great however. We only had rain twice and that was over night. The wind was a bit strong but it helped cool us down for the scorching heat. The staff is wonderful as well except for the woman in sports bar who would make bad comments about everybody that walked up to the bar!! She thinks that non-Spanish people don't understand Spanish I guess. I actually made a complaint about her in my review cause I was so disgusted with her behaviour....very unprofessional. All in all it was a good vacation. The resort, beach, weather was beautiful.....the rest are just details that in the end don't really matter.
